At Ilam Orthodontics, you can be sure of many things: exceptional treatment, the latest in technology and educational resources, and the skills and knowledge of our two specialist orthodontists, Dr Marguerite Crooks and Dr Sherry Lee. Our team of orthodontic auxiliaries and dental assistants work closely with our specialist orthodontists to deliver our patients the highest level of orthodontic care. Specialist Orthodontist

Sherry is one of our specialist orthodontists working at Ilam Orthodontics.

She completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery with First Class Honours from the University of Otago and worked as a Dental House Surgeon at both Dunedin and Hawke’s Bay Hospitals. Sherry then spent some time in Sydney as a Dental Officer at Westmead Hospital before coming back to the University of Otago to complete her Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry under a full scholarship.

Sherry is certified with the Australasian Orthodontic Board and is a member of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists, the New Zealand Dental Association, and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

Sherry is also an accomplished musician, having completed her DipABRSM and LTCL with distinction on the piano, as well as her ATCL and LTCL with distinction on the violin. She has previously played in both the Christchurch Symphony and Dunedin Symphony Orchestras.

In her spare time, Sherry loves to cook, curl up with a book and explore the beautiful trails New Zealand has to offer.

Specialist Orthodontist

Marguerite has a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and a Masters in Orthodontics from the University of Otago. It is these qualifications which enable Marguerite to be registered as a Specialist in Orthodontics. Marguerite has been practicing as a specialist orthodontist in Christchurch since 1996. Marguerite also has a Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Otago.

Marguerite is an Honorary Life Member of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists and has previously held the positions of president, vice president, secretary and councilor. Marguerite is accredited with the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists' Practice Accreditation Programme. Marguerite is also a member of the World Federation of Orthodontists, the New Zealand Dental Association including the Canterbury branch, the New Zealand Orthodontic Study Group, and a Christchurch Dental Study Group. Marguerite has long been interested in "Chalky Teeth" having undertaken a benchmark study about tooth enamel abnormalities in Cook Islanders way back in 1990 (see academic publication here). These days she keeps at the forefront of chalky teeth treatment, research and education through membership of The D3 Group for Developmental Dental Defects.

Marguerite is married with two daughters, three dogs and enjoys gardening, yoga, walking and horsey things.

Specialist Orthodontist

Dr Peter Fowler retired from practice at Ilam Orthodontics in 2020 after 30 years dedicated to patients at Ilam Orthodontics, and formerly Riccarton Orthodontics. Peter is currently working at the University of Bristol, Orthodontic Department, UK, where he is expanding his knowledge of international care for patients born with Cleft Lip and Palate and teaching orthodontic students.

Haidee

Haidee

Orthodontic Auxiliary

Haidee is a New Zealand registered orthodontic Auxiliary and a registered dentist from the Philippines. She graduated with a doctorate in dental medicine in 1998 and has been a part of the dental industry for over 15 years.

Haidee is always open to learning what is new in dentistry and is considering further study in the dental and orthodontic fields. She also hopes to help others in her line of work.

Outside of the practice, Haidee is passionate about raising her children and spending time with her family. She also loves travelling around New Zealand.

Practice Manager

Therese is a qualified dental therapist and registered orthodontic auxiliary. Since the inception of Ilam Orthodontics, Therese has been a key leader of the team and manager of the practice. Therese enjoys being part of a dedicated team in a modern progressive practice. Outside work, Therese enjoys walking and cooking good food.

Orthodontic Auxiliary

Catherine graduated as an orthodontic Auxiliary in 2015. She has also previously trained as a dental assistant and has a Diploma in Business.

A passionate lifelong learner, Catherine regularly attends training seminars and the occasional conference for professional development. She hopes to broaden her knowledge of orthodontics, as well as other aspects of the dental profession.

Catherine loves being involved in a process that impacts so positively on individuals. Being able to share that moment when a patient sees their teeth for the first time following the removal of braces is quite special.

Outside of the practice, Catherine spends time with her family and friends and enjoys decorating intricate and novelty cakes for special celebrations.

Orthodontic Auxiliary

Emma moved to New Zealand from the UK in 2009 where she had trained as a dental nurse.

Since moving to New Zealand she found a passion working within the orthodontic field and registered as a dental assistant in 2011. Emma is currently an orthodontic Auxiliary.

Outside of the practice, Emma enjoys spending time with family and going to local community events. She loves Japanese food and will often create Japanese delicacies at home with her partner. Emma also appreciates a good renovation project and particularly enjoys tiling.

Dental Assistant

Alma is an overseas qualified dentist, graduating from NITTE University, India in 2014. Since her university studies, she has maintained a high interest in orthodontics and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Health.

Alma moved to New Zealand after marriage and lives in Christchurch with her family. Alma’s multiple roles as mother, wife, student and clinical assistant keep her busy but in her free time Alma loves to spend time reading books and travelling with family.

Receptionist

Robyn enjoys welcoming and getting to know all of our patients who come into Ilam Orthodontics and likes to make their visits calm and positive.

She feels a sense of satisfaction by getting to know the patients and their parents and seeing their orthodontic journey at Ilam Orthodontics.

Outside of the practice, Robyn loves spending time with her family and friends, and taking her Jack Russell, ‘Archie’, on walks. You may also find her at the gym each morning or at a local art class as she also enjoys painting.
